| CodePink Austin endorses the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund and the Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund Act. The Peace Tax Fund Act would amend the Internal Revenue Code to permit taxpayers conscientiously opposed to participating in war to have their income, estate or gift tax payments spent for non-military purposes only. | What is CODEPINK? CODEPINK is a women initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement that seeks positive change through creative action. CODEPINK began with a four month vigil in Washington DC that started in November 2002 and ended on International Women's Day, March 8, 2003. Women from all over the country joined together to protest the Bush Administration's obvious plan to take us to war. It was a women's preemptive strike for peace. CODEPINK Austin began in January 2004. We are constantly looking for new ideas for actions and events. CODEPINK Austin is growing and would like to encourage those interested to join with us. | What We Do... CODEPINK Austin sponsors, hosts, and participates in rallies, marches, and events that promote peace and social justice. CODEPINK Austin has addressed many serious issues in creative and sometimes outrageous ways, including: ** Supporting Cindy Sheehan & military families at Camp Casey throughout Aug. ’05; ** Delivering ‘pink slips’ (in the form of women’s lingerie) to crooked members of the TX Legislature who spend our $$ frivolously and try to trample on our rights as women; ** Demanding justice for the hundreds of murdered women of Juarez, Mexico; ** Hosting a “do something” activist training; ** Street education on key issues: war profiteering, erosion of women’s rights, election fraud,... ** Demanding that electronic voting machines guarantee safe voting. |
| A current on-going CODEPINK Austin campaign is the Pink Police. We have 4 Pink officers that serve citations to various companies and agencies that profit from the misfortune of others. Our current focus has been the war profiteers of Austin. |
